This is a family orientated child development program designed to provide education, social services, health, and nutrition services to income eligible families. Services provided to children age 3-5 years old are available to families in Scott, Carver and Dakota Counties. Head Start provides a quality preschool program 4 days a week, 9 months a year which includes activities to promote learning in the areas of literacy, mathematics, science, creative arts, physical health, and social emotional behavior. Through this curriculum children will gain the necessary skills to be prepared for Kindergarten. Head Start also offers comprehensive assistance to parents working towards self sufficiency.
Early Head Start
This program offers services to pregnant women and children age birth to 3 who reside in Dakota County. This program provides a home visit one day a week with a focus on activities in child caregiver relationships and infant toddler development. In addition, there are semi-monthly socialization gatherings with other families and on-going support for parents and services as needed for health, nutrition, social services, disabilities, and mental health.
Who is Eligible?
Families with children birth to 5 years old who are eligible according to the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines or those who meet other eligibility criteria for enrollment. Children must be 3 years old by September 1st to be eligible for Head Start. Head Start is available for residents of Scott, Carver and Dakota Counties. Early Head Start is available in Dakota County for pregnant women and children age birth-3 years old.
